History

La Casa Luz del Norte is located in Gibara, Holguín. Street address is Donato Marmol #69, between Maceo and B.Varona.

Built in 1874, the house belonged to a family called Liberatos, who after having won in a lottery purchased this property.

Construction

The architectural style was influenced by the moorish heritage of the spanish immigrants who had settled in Gibara.

The building is 33 m (108.25 ft) long and 23 m (75.5 ft) wide with a room height of up to 7 m (23 ft), and offers a beautiful view over the city and the bay.

Infrastructure

The house includes four rental rooms, a spacious lobby and a patio with a vista terrasse. The personnel speaks fluently Spanish, English and a little German, and offers various services such as food & drinks or rental bycicles

Lobby

The lobby of «La Luz» is divided into two parts, a large entrance area and a TV room. Thanks to the large room height of up to 7 m (23 ft) you may always enjoy a pleasant natural coolness in this area.

Patio and viewpoint

The covered patio provides relaxing shade and invites you to unwind in one of the hammocks or comfortable chairs. This is where we serve breakfast or other local specialties on request.

From the viewpoint of the house you have a magnificent view of the city, the bay and «La Silla de Gibara», the local landmark.

More information about the house

The restauration of the house preserved its original style, including its precious wooden floors. It comprises a large entrance hall and 5 cosy rooms (4 for rent), which are connected by internal doors. The bathrooms, air conditioning, hot and cold water, LED and halogen lights, furniture and other installations are kept simple, yet functional. The rooms have windows facing to the city and the bay, and are looking on the small garden in front of the house. The tap water provided comes from a huge internal cistern that is filled by collecting the natural rainfall.

The furniture in the room is made of Louis XV style Oak wood. The exterior lamps are traditional Cuban style, while the rooms and in the courtyard have a more modern illumination.

Th ehouse has a patio with tables and a relaxing home environment, where you can taste traditional Cuban meals made of with local products and aromatic herbs. In the rear section, there is a viewpoint overlooking the bay and part of the city, composed of wooden stairs and railings in the traditional style.
