Gibara, according to local historians the first place where Christopher Columbus landed, has a beautiful scenery. With its viewpoint, the Malecon, the Catholic Church that was built in the nineteenth century, its parks, museums it has a lot to share for you and your family. Take the chance and get into contact with the daily life of the local people from Gibara. Furthermore, there are places of incredible natural wealth around, such as the caves «Cueva los Panaderos» with its underground river, located about 500 meters from the city center, some incredible natural settings for climbing, and the possibility of an excursion arranged with a group of professional climbers from the town.

The Caletones beach, about 20 km from Gibara, offers white sands, natural ponds with transparent and almost virgin waters such as «El Tanque Azul», Cuba's largest, where you can practice diving and snorkeling, and the «Posa Fría», which is famous for its refreshingly low water temperatures. Visits to the other side of the bay in a small boat, where you can eat in mini-restaurants and enjoy its quiet beaches.

Gibara has also restored and rescued old colonial buildings with great architectural value such as the Hotel Ordoño which has internet service, the Hotel Arsenita, and the Hotel Bahía el Almirante. Within them you may find places of recreation such as Bar la Loja, Siglo XX, el Faro and others.

Our town is known for the «Cavernas» festival and the «Festival Internacional de Cine» (International Film Festival), normally held in April. Around the city there are innumerable restaurants that offer traditional gibareñan food. Rental cars are also available to let you enjoy the pleasant climate and cozy landscape of our bay.
